James McMurtry is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist born in 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas, and the son of novelist Larry McMurtry. Known for detailed, literary storytelling in the Americana and roots-rock vein, he released his debut album Too Long in the Wasteland in 1989 after John Mellencamp helped produce it.
