Johnnie Allan (born John Allen Guillot, March 10, 1938, in Rayne, Louisiana) is an American pioneer of the swamp pop genre, widely known as the "King of Swamp Pop." A Cajun from a musical family, he started guitar at six and began merging Cajun music with rock 'n' roll after seeing Elvis Presley on television in 1956. He is best known for his 1973 accordion-driven cover of Chuck Berry's "Promised Land," which earned him a gold record
