Bio

Winston Foster, known as Yellowman, is a pioneering Jamaican dancehall deejay born January 15, 1956 in Kingston, who emerged in the early 1980s to become one of the genre's most influential figures. His innovative approach to toasting, rapping over reggae rhythms, helped establish the template for modern dancehall and later influenced hip-hop, earning him the title King of Dancehall among fans. In 1981 he became the first dancehall artist signed to a major American label, Columbia Records, cementing his role in bringing the genre to international audiences.
