Age, licensing and hygiene

Age and ID

Admission is all ages with under 12s free when accompanied by a paying adult, and the organizer warns some evening events may be 18+. The organizer publishes no tattooing-age rule. Under Virginia law a minor may be tattooed only in the presence of a parent or legal guardian who consents, which is a legal floor on the artists rather than a stated organizer policy

Rules on the floor

The organizer publishes no bag policy, security screening, medical or first-aid arrangement on the pages read

The organiser publishes nothing on Any organizer statement on sterilisation, single-use needles or ink, or workstation barriers, Any organizer consent form or aftercare sheet, Any tattooing-age rule and Any first aid, medical or security arrangement. Ask the artist you are booking with, and expect a licensed booth to answer without hesitating.

The experience

What's special

Anime Ink Con bills itself as the world's first anime tattoo convention, three days of anime-inspired ink, cosplay, gaming, music and community at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in downtown Richmond. The floor pairs a large tattoo roster, more than 300 artists listed for 2026 and marketed as 600-plus artists, cosplayers and creators, with a cosplay contest offering cash prizes, panels and workshops, DJ sets and performances, anime screenings and celebrity guests. Admission is all ages, with under 12s free alongside a paying adult, though the organizer notes some evening events may be 18-plus. Passes run from $30 for a single day up to a $70 weekend pass or a $150 three-day VIP, sold through the event's own checkout, and walk-up tattoos are available with some artists during the weekend

What happens on the floor

Tattoo convention

The core format: artists take a booth for the weekend and work on the open floor, with the public walking through.

Anime tattoo
Tattoo contests

Finished and same-day work is judged on stage in named categories, usually late in the day.

Cosplay
Vendor market

Machines, inks, aftercare, art and clothing. Aimed at artists, but open to anyone through the door.

Panels
Live tattooing

Pieces go on in the open, start to finish. You can watch, and talk to artists between clients.

Cosplay contest
Entertainment stage

Stage acts between judging: sideshow, suspension and burlesque are common. Worth knowing before you sit down with a child.

Getting tattooed here

Before you go

Admission gets you through the door, not into a chair. Tattoo work is arranged with the artist, not with the show.

Booking ahead

The organizer does not publish a central booking system. Visitors who want a specific artist should reach that artist directly ahead of the show

Walk-ups on the day

The artists directory states that 'Walk-ups are available with some artists during the convention', so availability is per-artist and not guaranteed floor-wide

Who is tattooing

The live artists directory at /exhibitors/artists rendered roughly 313 individual artist cards on 5 September 2026, each a name or an Instagram-handle-style label with a photo. The cards did not carry per-artist Instagram links, studio names or profile URLs, so only names and handle-style labels could be captured. The organizer's headline '600+ artists' claim is larger than the 313 tattoo-artist cards found, but the 600+ figure is explicitly '600+ artists, cosplayers, and creators', so it spans more than the tattoo roster. A separate vendors directory exists but could not be counted cleanly (the shared browser was navigated away mid-read)

15 artists are listed for this edition, and Instagram handles where the show publishes them.

What it costs

What the tattoo costs

Admission is the only price the show sets. No tattoo prices are published by the organizer; each artist sets their own rate at their own booth. Budget for tattoo work as a separate, unknown cost on top of admission. Walk-ups are available with some artists; the cost is whatever the chosen artist charges.

If you are exhibiting

Booth and vendor fees are what the show charges artists and traders. They are not visitor prices.

Artist side, not a visitor price

Vendor booth pricing is handled through the same exhibitor application; no public figure is published. Trader side, not a visitor price

The ticket-card feature checklist on the ticket page renders an identical bullet list ('General Admission, Artist Alley Access, Vendor Hall Access, Panels & Workshops, Priority Entry, VIP Lounge, Meet & Greets') under every tier, including the cheapest single-day pass, so it is a template artifact and cannot be read as a per-tier inclusion list. The FAQ is the reliable source for what VIP actually adds

The market and the food

No food program is published by the organizer. The Greater Richmond Convention Center runs its own in-house concessions and catering for events; what opens for this convention is not confirmed

Hours and the floor

It is the biggest exhibition space in central Virginia and hosts the three-day convention indoors

An indoor, climate-controlled convention center, so weather is not a factor. The organizer publishes no visitor comfort detail of its own

Accessibility & comfort

What the organiser or venue publishes about getting around, and what they do not.

Disability accessNo accessibility statement is published. The Greater Richmond Convention Center is a large modern facility with accessible parking and level halls as standard; contact the venue for specifics
Ages

Two separate questions. ADMISSION: the event is all ages, and children under 12 get in free with a paying adult, but the organizer warns that 'some evening events may be 18+'. GETTING TATTOOED: the organizer does not publish a tattooing age rule.

Virginia law is the governing floor here and does allow a minor to be tattooed, but only in the physical presence of a parent or legal guardian who consents, so a tattooing-age policy should be confirmed with the organizer and with each artist before relying on it

Confirm your specific needs with the organiser's access team before you travel.
