What's special
Chicago Gourmet is the Illinois Restaurant Association's flagship culinary festival, staged each September on the Harris Theater Rooftop and around Millennium Park in downtown Chicago and widely described as one of the country's elite food-and-wine events. Rather than a single gate, it is a run of ticketed signature tastings — Tacos & Tequila, Hamburger Hop, Grand Cru, Rise & Shine Gourmet — showcasing more than 100 of the city's top restaurants and chefs alongside celebrity names like Rick Bayless and Stephanie Izard, hundreds of wineries and dozens of spirits producers. Tickets are premium-priced (roughly $175 a day / $250 a weekend, plus per-event options) and the roughly 8,000 tickets are reported to sell out within minutes each year.
What people love
The festival's reputation rests on the breadth and quality of what a ticket buys — a very large volume of high-end bites and pours from a deep roster of Chicago's best restaurants and chefs, plus close access to marquee culinary personalities through demos and talks. Its rapid annual sell-out is the clearest signal of how strongly the city's food crowd values it. Last time around
The most recent held edition ran in late September 2025 on the Harris Theater Rooftop and across Millennium Park, following the festival's established multi-event format (Grand Cru wine tastings, the Hamburger Hop kickoff, Tacos & Tequila, chef demos and the Rise & Shine brunch). As in prior years it drew a sell-out crowd of food-and-wine enthusiasts for premium tastings from 100-plus restaurants and hundreds of beverage producers, with proceeds supporting the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The 2026 edition (September 24-27) had not yet taken place as of this review.
