Fountain City Tattoo Expo's next dates haven't been announced yet. The last festival was 18 to 20 September 2026 in Columbus, GA. Froligo tracks current ticket prices, attendee feedback and travel details.

Age, licensing and hygiene

Everything attributed to the organizer here is published for THIS event on its own site. Note carefully who the two age statements are addressed to: the 18 and over rule on the FAQ is written for attendees, while the near identical wording about release forms sits inside the BOOTH HOLDER terms and conditions that an exhibitor must agree to. They are consistent, but only one of them is guidance to a visitor. Everything after that is Georgia statute and regulation, recorded as legal backdrop and not as an organizer claim

Age and ID

To be tattooed you must be 18 or older and have valid identification with you, and the organizer names what it will take: a driver's licence, a military ID or other government issued identification. Georgia law leaves no other option: it is unlawful to tattoo anyone under 18 and a misdemeanour to do it, and the only exception in the statute is a licensed physician or osteopath, or a technician they directly supervise, acting for medical or cosmetic purposes. There is NO parental consent route to a tattoo in Georgia, so the show's flat 18 and over rule is the only lawful posture. No minimum age for ADMISSION is published; strollers are allowed

Licensing and health department

The organizer does not make a marketing claim about licensing; Artists already licensed in Georgia are told that temporary event tattoo permits will be issued after their Georgia tattoo licence is verified. Artists licensed elsewhere are told that, if accepted, the Columbus Environmental Health Department requires a tattoo artist permit application, a notarised verification of residency form, proof of current First Aid certification, proof of completion of a current bloodborne pathogen training programme, a hepatitis B vaccine record or declination form, and a copy of a government issued photo ID. Booth holders are separately made responsible for all location fees, establishment fees and local health department artist licence fees and permits. The regulator is the West Central Health District, covering Muscogee County. Two cautions: the permit forms linked from the application page are 2021 uploads, one of them named for a 2021 convention, and the FAQ sends artists to a resources page for health department requirements that contains none, the real material being on the booth application page instead

Sterilisation and single-use practice

Hygiene is imposed on booth holders by contract, in the organizer's own words. Booth holders must meet local health licensing requirements for sterilisation. If tattooing on site they must use single-use needles and inks, dispose of used needles and razors in a sharps container, follow professional tattooing standards and maintain cleanliness, bandage all new tattoos, dispose of or bag contaminated waste daily, check for any tattooing products or materials before leaving, leave no mess, and disinfect the area including work tables and chairs. A sharps container comes with every booth. This is a contractual undertaking by booth holders plus a real health department permit process, not an organizer run inspection regime, and no inspection by the organizer is described

Consent and aftercare

A release form exists and is handed out on site: the exhibitor terms require that all recipients fill out a provided release form and present valid ID. On aftercare, the only rule anywhere is the booth holder obligation to bandage all new tattoos. There is no attendee facing aftercare guidance, no aftercare page and no handout described. Ask your artist for aftercare instructions and do not assume you will be given any in writing

Rules on the floor

Large bags are allowed but subject to search, there is a security scan point at entry, and service animals only. A COVID-19 visitor safety block is still published in present tense pandemic framing, with one way entrances and exits, social distancing between artists and patrons, a request to stay home if symptomatic and a request to use hand washing and sanitising stations. It reads as un-updated legacy text rather than an active 2026 policy

Local rules, for context

Georgia permits body art studios and artists through the COUNTY board of health, and it is unlawful to operate a body art studio or perform body art without a valid permit. A convention runs on a temporary body art studio permit, which exists specifically for body art conventions and industry trade shows: the application goes to the health authority at least 30 days before the event with all fees paid before issue, no permit lasts more than seven consecutive days, an applicant cannot hold more than two seven day permits in any thirty days, and a permit cannot be transferred between places or people. Body art may only be performed by someone holding a current Body Artist Certification from the department, or a temporary or guest body artist permit from the health authority, which is exactly why this organizer runs a two track process for Georgia licensed and non Georgia licensed artists. The regulator for this venue is the West Central Health District, covering Muscogee County. No permit number for this event is published by anyone

The organiser publishes nothing on attendee-facing aftercare guidance, the contents of the release form, which is not published anywhere, autoclave or sterilisation procedure beyond meeting local requirements, any organizer-run inspection of booth compliance and a temporary body art studio permit number for this event. Ask the artist you are booking with, and expect a licensed booth to answer without hesitating.

The experience

What's special

The Fountain City Tattoo Expo is a three day convention in the restored Historic Columbus Iron Works on the Chattahoochee, presented by Against All Odds Tattoo of Auburn, Alabama, and billed as its 6th annual. The floor is invitation only from the artists' side, which gives it a settled roster rather than a sprawling one: 44 artists are published for 2026 and every one of them lists an Instagram handle, which matters because the organizer takes no part in booking and expects you to contact artists yourself. There are no contests and no stage programme; the draw is the artists, the vendors and the building. Admission runs on a ladder that rewards buying early and online, and being tattooed requires you to be 18 with government issued photo identification. Artists must clear a Columbus Environmental Health Department permit process before they can work, with First Aid, bloodborne pathogen training and hepatitis B records among the documents required

What happens on the floor

Tattoo convention

The core format: artists take a booth for the weekend and work on the open floor, with the public walking through.

Live tattooing

Pieces go on in the open, start to finish. You can watch, and talk to artists between clients.

Piercing

Piercers work alongside the tattoo booths. The same questions apply: age, ID, sterilisation and aftercare.

Vendor market

Machines, inks, aftercare, art and clothing. Aimed at artists, but open to anyone through the door.

Getting tattooed here

Before you go

Admission gets you through the door, not into a chair. Tattoo work is arranged with the artist, not with the show.

Booking ahead

Booking is direct with the artist and the organizer says so plainly: Fountain City Inc. Has no involvement with scheduling appointments, and asks you to contact the artist directly. The roster makes that easy, because every artist on it publishes an Instagram handle. The organizer also states that the ticket price does not go towards the price of your tattoo

Walk-ups on the day

Both are normal here and it depends on the artist. The organizer says that depending on the tattoo and the artist a scheduled appointment may be recommended, that some artists seek walk-up clients and some prefer appointments

Who is tattooing

44 artists are published for 2026 and every single one of them carries an Instagram handle and names a studio, which is the cleanest roster on this branch: you can look at each artist's actual work before you decide, and the organizer expects you to, because it takes no part in booking. The 44 come from 14 different studios, so several shops are bringing a group. No booth numbers are published and there is no floor plan, so you will be finding people on foot. Note the floor is invitation only from the artists' side, which is why the list is this size and this settled

44 artists are listed for this edition, and Instagram handles where the show publishes them.

What it costs

What the tattoo costs

Admission is the only price the show sets. The organizer refuses to estimate, and says so: the cost of a tattoo is completely up to each individual artist and it does not give price estimates. It also states that the event ticket fee does not go towards the price of your tattoo. Every artist on the roster publishes an Instagram handle, so message them and agree a price before you travel.

If you are exhibiting

Booth and vendor fees are what the show charges artists and traders. They are not visitor prices.

Artist half booth, 5ft by 10ft piped and draped$350
Artist full booth, 10ft by 10ft piped and draped, up to 2 artists$675
Vendor booth, 10ft by 10ft piped and draped$400
Large vendor booth, 10ft by 20ft piped and draped$800
X-Large vendor booth, 10ft by 30ft piped and draped$1,200

The floor is by invitation only. Artists apply for an invitation, and applying does not guarantee a booth; payment is only made after an invitation email arrives. Booth fees include one artist laminate and one helper wristband per booth, with additional people buying wristbands. Full payment is due 30 days before the event. A booth comes with a sharps container. WARNING for anyone comparing prices: a stale shop page on the same site still sells 2025 booths at $600 and $300, which contradicts the 2026 figures above

No booking or service fee is disclosed. Buying online rather than at the door saves $5 on a day pass and $10 on a weekend pass

No food vendor names, menus, prices, outside food policy or bar policy are published. The organizer's own description mentions food and drinks generically

The market and the food

The market floor carries vendors.

Food and drink are mentioned only in the organizer's general description of the weekend. No food vendor names, menus, prices, outside food policy or bar and alcohol policy are published
