The experience

What's special

Los Angeles Food & Wine was for most of the 2010s the city's flagship celebrity-chef tasting festival, best known for its downtown editions that closed Grand Avenue in front of the Walt Disney Concert Hall for grand tastings, night markets, and chef-led dinners. Across a multi-day program it paired dozens of marquee chefs with hundreds of wineries, positioning itself as one of LA's premier culinary events. The festival reached its ninth edition in August 2019, held that year at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, and has not announced an edition since; its former web domain now hosts an unrelated event

What people love

In its active years attendees described a lively, upscale party atmosphere and treated the event as the way to graze across the best new restaurants and top wineries in one place, with the grand tastings and chef dinners drawing the most enthusiasm. Sentiment on value was split: many felt the variety and quality justified the premium ticket, while others complained the marquee sessions were overpriced, ran short on food as vendors sold out, and ended earlier than expected

Last time around (2019)

The most recent held edition was the 9th Annual Los Angeles Food & Wine, August 22-25, 2019, which moved its large tasting events to Barker Hangar in Santa Monica while the dinner series continued at venues across the city. Attendee accounts from that era describe a bustling, celebratory tasting floor and strong restaurant discovery, with the recurring critique that the biggest sessions could feel crowded and that food at some ran out before the session ended. No edition has been announced since, so this 2019 recap sits outside the usual 2023-2026 weighting window as an unavoidable consequence of the festival's dormancy

How do I get to Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival?

By car

Most people drive to Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival. The nearest major airport is LAX, and from there it is a straightforward drive to the venue. Check current road and traffic conditions before you set off, and see parking below.

By train

No direct passenger rail to the venue was found. Drive, fly in, or use a shuttle instead.

By bus & public transit
LAX FlyAway (Union Station route)~30-50 minutes depending on traffic · $9.75 one-way to Union Station

The LAX FlyAway coach runs direct, non-stop from LAX to Union Station in downtown LA, the most straightforward transit link to the festival's historic downtown footprint, no transfers. From Union Station the Grand Ave area is a short Metro/rideshare hop

LA Metro (C/K Lines via LAX/Metro Transit Center)~45-60 minutes LAX to downtown LA by rail/connections · $1.75 base Metro fare (free LAX terminal shuttle to the transit center)

LAX's rail connection changed in 2025: the LAX/Metro Transit Center opened June 2025 as the terminus of the Metro C and K Lines, linked to the terminals by a free shuttle (the automated SkyLink people-mover was still in testing and not open to the public as of mid-2026). From the transit center a rider connects toward downtown LA (the festival's historic Grand Ave footprint) or west toward Santa Monica (the 2019 Barker Hangar footprint) on the Metro rail network

Taxi & rideshare
Uber, Lyft, and taxis (via LAX-it lot)~25-60 minutes depending heavily on traffic · Roughly $30-$70 one-way to downtown LA or Santa Monica depending on demand/time of day

From LAX-it a direct car covers downtown LA or Santa Monica

Book / info →

Taxis and rideshare such as Uber and Lyft can be limited near the venue, especially late at night or in rural areas. Agree a pickup point and time in advance and keep a backup plan.

🅿 Parking

Cost n/a, no current figure; downtown LA garages historically ran roughly $10-$40/day.

🚙 Car hire

Compare car hire at LAX

Reference only, the festival is dormant. Were an edition to return, LA is a car-oriented city and fly-in attendees combining it with wider LA/wine-country travel would commonly rent at LAX; for a downtown or Santa Monica event itself, Metro/FlyAway/rideshare are the more practical choices given parking cost and traffic

Reference only for a dormant festival. Downtown LA and the Westside have very large short-term-rental supply year-round; there is no festival date to key surge pricing to while the event is silent

Reference only. Hipcamp private-land camping/glamping around greater LA clusters well outside the urban core (Angeles National Forest, Malibu hills, further out), not a practical downtown-LA lodging alternative, and moot while the festival is dormant
