The experience
What's special
Secret Project is an underground house and techno festival that began in 2018 in the Chinatown area of Downtown Los Angeles, produced by Insomniac's Factory 93. Focused on the avant-garde and esoteric strains of electronic music with an art-and-technology framing, it ran as a compact, two-stage open-air October event with internationally curated lineups drawing on names such as Four Tet, Peggy Gou, Nina Kraviz, Carl Cox and Honey Dijon. It later returned for one-off Los Angeles shows and the brand expanded into a separate European edition
What people love
Attendees consistently praise the curated underground and techno lineup, describing past bills as incredible and remarking on the technical skill of the DJs. The compact, two-stage layout is highlighted as making it easy to move between sets during conflicts, and the long DJ sets are singled out as a standout compared with shorter slots at larger festivals
Last time around (2023)
The most recent Los Angeles event was a December 15, 2023 return headlined by Carl Cox, following the festival's 2018 debut and 2019 edition in Chinatown
