The experience
What's special
Wellfleet OysterFest is a two-day street festival (26th annual, October 17-18, 2026) that takes over downtown Wellfleet's Main Street to celebrate the town's famous Cape Cod oysters. Produced by the nonprofit Wellfleet SPAT / Oyster Alliance, it draws upwards of 20,000 people for raw bars, the marquee Oyster Shuck-Off competition, beer and wine gardens, arts-and-crafts vendors, and live music, with proceeds funding local shellfishing, aquaculture, and scholarships
What people love
Attendees rave about the fresh local oysters and food and the lively, well-organized small-town atmosphere, singling out the shucking contest and live music and often saying the event never disappoints, even in poor weather. The most common gripes are consistent: heavy crowding packed into a compact downtown footprint, long lines, limited seating, and premium prices
Last time around (2025)
The 2025 edition again drew large crowds to downtown Wellfleet in mid-October to support local shellfishing and aquaculture while retaining a distinctly local vibe. Attendee accounts across recent years echo the same rhythm: excellent oysters and a fun street-party atmosphere, tempered by crowds and lines, with the festival billed as rain or shine

Getting there
Nearest airport BOS.
How do I get to Wellfleet OysterFest?
By car
Most people drive to Wellfleet OysterFest. The nearest major airport is BOS, and from there it is a straightforward drive to the venue. Check current road and traffic conditions before you set off, and see parking below.
By train
No direct passenger rail to the venue was found. Drive, fly in, or use a shuttle instead.
By bus & public transit
Plymouth & Brockton runs scheduled coach service from Boston and Logan Airport down the Cape via Route 6 toward Provincetown. This gets a car-free traveler onto the Outer Cape, but confirm whether the specific run stops at/near Wellfleet (the Route 6 Outer Cape stops vary) versus Hyannis/Provincetown, from which a rideshare or the seasonal Cape Cod Regional Transit shuttle covers the last miles to Wellfleet
Book / info →Taxi & rideshare
Rideshare and taxis operate on Cape Cod but supply is thinner on the Outer Cape than in Boston, fine for short local hops (e.g. from a Wellfleet-area hotel to the festival) but an expensive, not-always-available option for the long haul from Boston Logan. Not a substitute for a car if you're basing the trip around the festival
Book / info →Taxis and rideshare such as Uber and Lyft can be limited near the venue, especially late at night or in rural areas. Agree a pickup point and time in advance and keep a backup plan.
🅿 Parking
On site parking available. Downtown Wellfleet is small and fills fast on festival weekend, so the festival runs a free park-and-ride shuttle from the ocean-beach parking lots (LeCount Hollow, White Crest, and Newcomb Hollow), dropping off on Bank Street by the Town Hall festival entrance. Paid parking is available at Wellfleet Pier and on private property near the center. Using the beach-lot shuttle is the recommended way to avoid the downtown crush
🚙 Car hire
Compare car hire at BOS
The primary option for fly-in attendees: Wellfleet is ~2 hr out on the Outer Cape with no rail and limited transit, so a hire car covers the drive from Boston Logan (or a Cape regional airport) and getting to the beach-lot park-and-ride and around the Cape for the weekend

Wellfleet and the surrounding Outer Cape have a deep cottage/home Airbnb market, a classic way to do a Cape weekend, and often better value than a hotel in the October shoulder season once summer peak has passed. OysterFest is the Cape's marquee fall event, though, so the closest Wellfleet units book up early for that weekend. Link points to the Wellfleet Airbnb search
Search Airbnb →The Outer Cape has established campgrounds (e.g. in the Wellfleet/Truro area) plus some Hipcamp private-land sites near the Cape Cod National Seashore, a scenic camping alternative to a hotel for the festival weekend, though October nights on the Cape are cool, so pack accordingly. What the organiser or venue publishes about getting around, and what they do not.
Wellfleet OysterFest has an Accessibility section in its FAQ. The organiser states the grounds are wheelchair accessible, with handicap parking and shuttle services from Mayo Beach, and that accessible restrooms are available.
Read the full notes
Free handicapped parking is at Mayo Beach with shuttle service to the Holbrook and Main Street entrance; reserved parking at Congo Church carries a fee payable to the church. The festival is shuttle based, with a drop off and pick up in the same location, a wait of up to 15 minutes, and bus services ending at 6pm; the FAQ does not say whether the shuttle vehicles themselves are accessible.
There are two entrances, at Town Hall Bank Street and at the intersection of Holbrook and Main St. Chairs are not permitted inside OysterFest due to limited space and large crowds. Nothing is published on ground surface or terrain, companion or carer tickets, ASL or a quiet or sensory space
Confirm your specific needs with the organiser's access team before you travel.
