What should I carry into the festival grounds each day?
A small bag with: water bottle (empty at the gate, refill inside), sunscreen, earplugs, portable charger, ID, one card and some cash, lip balm, sunglasses, and a light layer for the evening. Check the bag policy first: many festivals restrict size or require clear bags, and hydration packs are sometimes bladder-only. Leave anything you'd hate to lose at home. A carabiner for your water bottle frees your hands, and a bandana earns its spot in dust or heat.

Do I need earplugs at a festival?
Yes, and it is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy. Sustained front-of-stage sound commonly reaches levels that cause permanent damage over a weekend. High-fidelity earplugs designed for music lower volume without muffling the mix, and cost about the same as a festival meal. Foam plugs work too and are better than nothing. If you bring kids, use proper ear-defender muffs made for children. Ringing ears the next morning is a warning sign, not a badge of honor.

How do I keep my phone charged at a festival?
Bring a power bank of at least 10,000 mAh (roughly two full phone charges) and a short cable. Put your phone in low-power mode, drop screen brightness, and download offline maps and your tickets before you arrive, since festival networks are congested. Some festivals rent lockers with charging inside, which also solves the where-do-I-put-things problem. At camping festivals, a larger power station or solar panel is worth it for groups, but check the generator rules first.

What shoes should I wear to a festival?
Broken-in closed-toe shoes win almost every time: you will stand and walk for 8 to 12 hours, often on uneven grass, gravel, or mud. Trail runners and worn-in sneakers are the sweet spot. Boots make sense for mud season or ranch sites. Sandals are a gamble in crowds. Whatever you choose, never debut new shoes at a festival, and pack moleskin or blister bandages. If rain is possible, a second dry pair back at camp feels like a luxury.
