Santa Fe Desert Chorale Winter Festival

A little history

Santa Fe received its first Bishop, Father John Baptiste Lamy of France, in 1850. He judged the 1714 old adobe church inadequate for the seat of the Archdiocese and ordered a new Romanesque church, bringing French architects and Italian stonemasons to build it. Pope Benedict XVI elevated the Cathedral to a Basilica in 2005.

The Santa Fe Desert Chorale performs in the historic Cathedral Basilica as well as in other venues around New Mexico, and its Winter Festival is a holiday tradition for thousands of locals and visitors.
