A little history
Rural Hill covers 265 acres with trails, fields, historic cabins, one room schoolhouses and a working farm with Highland cattle. Its story dates back to 1760, with the original settlement of Major John Davidson, a signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence.
The Davidson family farmed cotton here for two centuries until the original mansion burned down in 1886, and the site today preserves their legacy through its remaining structures and family cemetery.
Today Rural Hill is known for the Loch Norman Highland Games, a family friendly Scottish heritage celebration with Highland dancing, bagpipe bands, athletics and Scottish merchants, drawing 10,000 to 12,000 visitors over the weekend.
