A little history
Star Hall was built as an amusement hall starting in 1905, with local craftsmen cutting timber, laying stone and doing the carpentry, and it has been in use since May 1906. In 1993 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and transferred to the custody of Grand County, which has since restored its roof, windows and interior.
Moab Folk Festival was founded by Melissa Schmaedick in 2003, became a nonprofit in 2005 under the Folk Alliance International group exemption program, and received its own standalone nonprofit status in 2024.
The festival uses two venues: Friday and Saturday night shows at historic Star Hall, capacity 290, and Saturday and Sunday daytime shows at the Moab City Ballpark, capacity 1,500.
