Union Fair began at Union Common, where exhibitors and visitors arrived by foot, wagon or carriage and tied horses to hitching posts. By 1878 the fair had expanded to Washington Village, and by 1915 cars had become a common way to arrive, letting fairgoers stay later than those travelling by horse and wagon.
