James Conlon is an American conductor, born 18 March 1950 in New York City, who made his New York Philharmonic debut in 1974. He served as Music Director of Los Angeles Opera from 2006 to 2026 (now Conductor Laureate), of the Cincinnati May Festival for 37 years, as Principal Conductor of the Paris National Opera (1995-2004), and as General Music Director of the City of Cologne (1989-2002). He is a noted champion of composers suppressed by the Nazis through his 'Recovered Voices' project and an extensive recorded survey of Alexander Zemlinsky
