KRS-One, born Lawrence Parker in the Bronx, New York, is an American rapper who rose to prominence in the mid-1980s as the frontman of Boogie Down Productions with DJ Scott La Rock. After La Rock's murder in 1987, he continued the group and later launched a solo career, becoming known for socially conscious songs such as "Sound of da Police" and "My Philosophy."
