Mitski is an American indie rock singer-songwriter born in 1990 in Japan to a Japanese mother and an American father, and spent her childhood in several countries before settling in the United States. She self-released her first albums while studying at SUNY Purchase and gained wider acclaim with 2016's Puberty 2. Her music is known for its candid lyrics and emotionally intense indie rock.
