Terry Allen is a West Texas country singer-songwriter and celebrated visual artist, born in Wichita, Kansas in 1943 and raised in Lubbock, Texas. Working across theater, painting, sculpture and music, he pioneered a literary reworking of classic country in the mid-to-late 1970s and became known, alongside Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, as part of the 'Lubbock Mafia.' His 1979 double album Lubbock (on everything) is frequently cited as one of the most influential country records ever made
