Bio

The Utah Symphony is a professional orchestra based in Salt Lake City, Utah, that gave its first concert on May 8, 1940 and adopted its current name in 1946. Under longtime music director Maurice Abravanel (1947-1979) it rose to national prominence and became the first American orchestra to record a complete cycle of Mahler's symphonies. It has performed at Abravanel Hall since 1979 and merged with Utah Opera in 2002 to form Utah Symphony | Utah Opera
