What's special
35 Denton was an independent, multi-venue music festival held annually in the compact downtown arts corridor of Denton, Texas, timed the week before SXSW in nearby Austin. Rather than a single fenced site, it spread dozens of touring and Texas indie, punk and hip-hop acts across the city's bars, clubs, warehouses and outdoor stages, with a strong emphasis on discovery bookings and the local college-town DIY scene. It began as an invite-only 2005 SXSW day party before growing into its own standalone weekend, and built a reputation among longtime fans for cramming an unusually eclectic bill into a small, walkable footprint
What people love
Longtime attendees consistently point to the thrill of discovering new bands while bar-hopping between small downtown venues, with breakout headline sets from touring acts singled out as the highlight of a given year. The mix of out-of-town food trucks brought in for the weekend was also called out as a welcome change from Denton's usual options. Even attendees who didn't recognize most of the bill often described simply having a good time soaking up the atmosphere
Last time around (2016)
The final edition ran March 11-13, 2016 in downtown Denton, headlined by Charles Bradley and Biz Markie on a noticeably smaller budget than the festival's earlier years. Longtime attendees were vocal in community discussion that the lineup had thinned out compared to 2012-2013, with some saying they no longer saw enough value in the ticket price and that the newer Oaktopia festival had eclipsed it as Denton's flagship event. The festival did not return after this edition, going on what organizers and press described as an indefinite hiatus the following year

No direct passenger rail to the venue was found. Drive, fly in, or use a shuttle instead.
By bus & public transit
FlixBus and Greyhound both run scheduled intercity coach service into Denton, stopping at the University of North Texas transit center on Lot 20 (southernmost bay), a little over a mile from Courthouse Square. This connects Denton to Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and other Texas cities, but does not run a direct DFW-airport-to-Denton leg riders headed straight from DFW would still need a rideshare/rail leg into a hub city bus stop first
Book / info →A genuine, if roundabout, current-day public-transit path exists: ride DART's Orange Line from DFW Airport Terminal A seven stops, transfer to the DART Green Line for five stops to Trinity Mills Station in Carrollton, then transfer to DCTA's A-train commuter rail, which terminates at the Downtown Denton Transit Center a short walk from the festival's Courthouse Square footprint. DCTA and DART are jointly building a more direct single-transfer Silver Line connection targeted for 2030; today's trip requires the two transfers described above

35 Denton's own historical shuttle program (2015-2016 editions) ran free from the Fry Street bar district (Lucky Lou's/Cool Beans/Rip Rock's parking) INTO the festival footprint a local park-and-ride, not an airport connector. No DFW-to-Denton festival shuttle was ever documented. Noted here so the absence is explicit rather than silently omitted

Direct rideshare/taxi from DFW to downtown Denton (~28 miles) is the simplest single-leg option for a fly-in attendee, given the multi-transfer public-transit path and the bus network's lack of a direct DFW-to-Denton segment

Downtown Denton itself runs on free public parking, not a paid-prepay system: free street parking around the Square (2-hour limit weekdays 8am-5pm, unlimited nights/weekends) plus several free surface lots within a five-minute walk of the courthouse, per the city and Denton Main Street Association's own parking guides. During its run, 35 Denton's own footprint additionally consumed roughly 200 spaces in the Williams Square lot southeast of the courthouse, per contemporary festival-preview coverage, so on-site festival parking specifically was NOT guaranteed even though downtown parking generally is free and first-come-first-served
