The experience
What's special
The Alexandria Scottish Walk Holiday Parade marks the city's Scottish roots: Alexandria was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants and named after the Scotsman John Alexander, who owned the land. Dozens of Scottish clans in tartan march through the streets of Old Town with pipe and drum bands, terriers and hounds, and community groups. The parade began more than 50 years ago to support what is now the Campagna Center, and the Scottish Christmas Walk is one of five statewide events documented in the Library of Congress Bicentennial Local Legacies Project. The 55th parade, on Saturday, December 5, 2026, is the first produced by the City of Alexandria.
