What's special
The Battle of Olustee Reenactment is billed as Florida's largest Civil War battle reenactment, staged on the actual Olustee (Ocean Pond) battlefield - now a Florida state park near Sanderson - by the Olustee Battlefield Citizens Support Organization in partnership with the Florida Park Service. Held over a mid-February weekend near the battle's anniversary, it draws over a thousand reenactors and pairs the Saturday and Sunday battle reenactments with an extensive educational program under a 9,000-square-foot Ball Tent, including presentations on the service of people of color in the Civil War, a Frederick Douglass presentation, artillery firing, period music, a wreath laying and a Sunday Union Monument ceremony.

The 49th Annual Reenactment (162nd anniversary) ran February 13-15, 2026. Friday brought registration, colors, a wreath laying, school-group tours and educational exhibits, artillery night firing and an Old Fashioned Barn Dance; Saturday featured a 'Voices of Pride' / Frederick Douglass / 'Service of People of Color in the Civil War' presentation, a period music concert, the battle reenactment at 1:30pm, a Ladies' Tea and the Battle of Olustee Ball; Sunday included a Union Monument ceremony, a period church service, and the main 1:30pm battle reenactment with a formal retreat and final volley.
Costumes & what to wear
Costume rules
Reenactors in period dress register and pay a $10 per-person resource fee (children under 6 free); an Old Fashioned Barn Dance on Friday is open to all participants and does not require period attire, while the Saturday-evening Battle of Olustee Ball requires period attire (participants only). Spectators are not required to dress in period
Weapons policy
Artillery inspections and mandatory safety meetings/inspections govern firing; no pets are allowed at the event
Joining in
Spectators can tour authentic campsites during open hours, attend numerous Civil War presentations under the 9,000-square-foot Ball Tent and on the Parade Ground, watch artillery night firing and medical demonstrations, and view the battle reenactment (Saturday and Sunday at 1:30pm). This is a living-history reenactment of the Battle of Olustee (also called Ocean Pond), fought in Florida on February 20, 1864, the largest Civil War battle in Florida. United States Colored Troops (USCT) fought at Olustee and suffered heavy casualties. Historians identify slavery as the central cause of the American Civil War; its outcomes included the emancipation of nearly four million enslaved people.
