The experience

What's special

The Battle for Jefferson is an annual early-May Civil War living-history weekend in Jefferson, Texas, run as a fundraiser for the Historic Jefferson Foundation and coupled with the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club's Pilgrimage. Hundreds of reenactors turn the town's historic district and Cypress River Ranch into a three-day encampment, staging a fictional 'what might have happened' battle - a two-day tilt between Confederate and Federal forces - across Saturday and Sunday, alongside a parade, a period ball, a Ladies' Tea, an Underground Railroad program, a period church service and a student living-history day.

Last time around

The 26th Annual Battle for Jefferson ran May 1-3, 2026, with a Friday student living-history day and an Illumination at Oakwood Cemetery, a Saturday Pilgrimage Parade town skirmish, the 'Secret Codes of the Underground Railroad' program, a Ladies' Tea, the first battle reenactment at 4pm and the Muskets and Magnolias Grand Ball, and a Sunday period church service, Presentation of Colors and the second battle at 1:30pm.
