What's special
The Bitterroot Celtic Games & Gathering is Western Montana's Highland games and Celtic festival, staged every third full weekend of August at the historic Daly Mansion in Hamilton. Run by the all-volunteer Bitterroot Celtic Society, it packs in Highland athletic competitions, pipe bands and piping competitions, Highland, Irish and Welsh dancing, a clan gathering with a Kirkin' o' the Tartan service, Scotch and mead tastings and continuous live Celtic music on two stages, and the organizers say it draws more than 7,000 people

The games
Heavy athletics
The games run Highland athletic competitions for adults, juniors and children, held on the caber alley swale, alongside a skillet toss, hurling demonstrations and sheep-herding demonstrations across the weekend
Pipe bands & Highland dance
Pipe bands play throughout the weekend, with piping and drumming competitions, a Highland dance competition, and Irish and Welsh dancing on a dedicated dance tent stage
Clans & genealogy
A clan gathering brings a grand entry and introduction of clans, with Clan MacKay as the 2026 honored clan, an introduction to genealogy and family history, and a Sunday morning Kirkin' o' the Tartan service
Taking part
Beyond the competitions, visitors can join Scotch, Irish whiskey and mead tastings, a Sunday afternoon tea, free Irish language classes, a children's activity area, and cooking and Celtic caterer demonstrations, with continuous live music on two stages
