Crested Butte Music Festival

CDOT's Bustang Outrider runs a direct intercity coach between Denver Union Station and Crested Butte, stopping in Gunnison (Quality Inn, 411 E Tomichi Ave) and terminating at the Crested Butte 4-Way Stop 'north of 6th and Elk' i.e. the same downtown hub the free Mountain Express shuttle uses, two blocks from Elk Avenue. Two trips daily in each direction, 365 days per year, operated for CDOT by Alpine Express. This is the practical car-free route for attendees flying into Denver instead of GUC: $45 one-way Crested Butte-Denver, $40 Gunnison-Denver, half-price for children, seniors 65+ and disabled passengers

Two genuinely free public bus systems cover the valley, with one hard caveat: neither serves the airport terminal itself. The RTA's own air-service page states the Mountain Express and RTA buses 'do NOT serve the airport and are not capable of handling luggage' so from GUC you need a short shuttle/private-ride hop (or ~1-mile walk into Gunnison) to reach an RTA stop. From Gunnison, the fare-free RTA bus 'runs a loop through the City of Gunnison before heading north on Hwy 135 to Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte' (about 66 minutes end-to-end, flag stops honored). Once in Crested Butte, the free Mountain Express Town Shuttle runs every 20 minutes, 7:35 AM to midnight (summer service June 12, September 27, 2026), linking downtown Crested Butte (Old Town Hall, 4-Way Stop, Teocalli) with the Mt. Crested Butte base area which covers evening hops between town venues and Mt. Crested Butte venues. Real-time arrivals via the Transit app

Alpine Express is the valley's longest-running airport shuttle operator and the primary door-to-door option from GUC to Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte lodging (reservations required their site asks for 48-hour advance booking, with phone confirmation for shorter notice: 970-641-5074 / 1-800-822-4844). Their own product pages list shared-shuttle fares of $37.53 one-way / $68.38 round trip per adult (children under 12 $25.19 / $44.74), plus a private small-group vehicle at $179.95 one-way / $359.90 round trip; rates exclude a 10% Gunnison Airport Access Fee and gratuity. NOTE: this is a commercial airport shuttle, not a festival-operated one The RTA air-service page also lists Rocky Rides, Black Canyon Limo and Dolly's Mountain Shuttle as alternative private shuttle/limo providers at GUC

Uber has declined to sign the county's operating agreement, so you cannot Uber from the airport curb. Uber's own city page confirms UberX/XL/Comfort/Black do operate within Crested Butte itself (longer pickup waits than big cities; advance reservations recommended), so rideshare works for in-valley hops between venues but not for the airport leg. For airport pickups use the authorized providers instead: Alpine Express, Rocky Rides, Black Canyon Limo, or Dolly's Mountain Shuttle (see shuttle entry)

Crested Butte is a small, supply-constrained mountain resort market where the festival's summer concert season coincides exactly with the town's peak visitor season (the same June-September window in which the town runs summer parking enforcement and the summer shuttle) expect peak-season rates and thin availability on marquee July weekends, and book well ahead. The town operates a short-term-rental permit regime (STR guest parking permits appear on the official town parking portal), so listings are established and regulated rather than gray-market. Budget pattern mirrors the lodging one: staying down-valley in Gunnison costs materially less, with the free RTA bus (or a car) covering the 28 miles

The upper Gunnison Valley is genuine public-lands camping country and a real budget alternative to resort-town rooms for attendees with a car: Hipcamp maintains a Crested Butte-area directory of private-land tent/RV sites, and the surrounding Gunnison National Forest has well-known designated campgrounds close to town (Lake Irwin on Kebler Pass, Gothic up the East River valley, Oh Be Joyful on the Slate River reservable via Recreation.gov, roughly $14-24/night per local guides; dispersed camping immediately around town is restricted to designated sites).
