Essence Festival of Culture is the largest annual celebration of Black culture, music and community in the United States, held over Fourth-of-July weekend in New Orleans since 1995. Billed as a 'party with a purpose,' it splits between free daytime programming at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center -- empowerment panels, wellness and beauty expos, a sprawling marketplace of Black-owned vendors and endless product samples -- and nightly concerts and intimate 'Superlounges' at the Caesars Superdome
