What's special
The Tennessee Renaissance Festival brings the medieval village of Covington Glen to life at Castle Park in Arrington, about 30 minutes south of Nashville, set dramatically at the foot of the private Castle Gwynn. Now run by Williamson County Parks & Recreation and marking its 40th annual edition in 2026, it runs every Saturday and Sunday in May plus Memorial Day Monday, with a full slate of themed weekends - Nordic Invasion, Fae Frolic, Pirate Parley, Isle of Skye, and Echoes of Olympus - anchored by Combatants Keep jousting, a large artisan marketplace, a human chess match, games like archery and axe throwing, and interactive quests.
What people love
Attendees love the creative costumes and the shows - the jousting, falconry, human chess, and acts like Paolo Garbanzo draw repeat praise - and families find it a fun day out with plenty for kids, set against the striking castle backdrop. Costumes & what to wear
Do I need a costume?
Costumes are common and creative outfits are a highlight, but they are entirely optional and regular clothes are fine. Attendees note the dress code is family-oriented and not strictly enforced beyond keeping things age-appropriate
Costume rules
Costumes from the Renaissance era and fantasy realms are encouraged, but regular clothing is also permitted. Attire must be suitable for guests of all ages and shoes are required; the festival reserves the right to deny admission for inappropriate attire. Plague masks, face masks, and other full-face coverings must be removed on entry
Weapons policy
All swords, daggers, bows and arrows, maces, and other weapons must be peace-tied before entry; bladed weapons brought or bought on-site must stay sheathed and secured with a cable, arrows must have tips removed and be secured in a quiver or case, and firearms and prop guns are prohibited
