What happened to Woodstock 50?
Financial backer Dentsu Aegis Network subsidiary Amplifi Live pulled its funding and attempted to unilaterally cancel the festival in April 2019, later accused by organizer Michael Lang of illegally sweeping ~$17M from the festival's bank account; the dispute drew a court ruling that Amplifi lacked the right to cancel, but repeated venue changes (permit denials pushed the event from Watkins Glen to Vernon Downs to Merriweather Post Pavilion, MD), headliner dropouts (Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus among others), and a last-minute reduction from 3 days to 1 day led Lang to officially call it off on 2019-07-31; Dentsu/Amplifi and the organizers settled their lawsuit roughly a year later, with Dentsu found to have breached its contract.
