A little history
The Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia World Congress Center Authority in 1971 to plan, build and run a convention facility. Centennial Olympic Park, a 21-acre public park linking the center to downtown Atlanta, grew out of the Olympic Games and reopened on March 28, 1998. Georgia International Plaza, a six-acre green space above Red Deck, also connects the center to the stadium district.
