Getting there and parking

Krannert Center is at 500 South Goodwin Avenue on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana. The underground garages are entered from Illinois Street on the north side or Oregon Street on the south side, and all four connect through tunnels under the east end of the building.

Parking in the garages is free after 5pm on weekday evenings and all day at weekends, and after 4pm through the winter months. Before 5pm on weekdays there are free 30-minute spots in the lower south garage and meters in the north garages; overflow parking is in University lots D1 and D9, which need permits before 5pm on weekdays.

Several Champaign-Urbana MTD bus routes stop right outside the doors, and University of Illinois students, staff and faculty ride free with an i-card.

Accessibility

Every theatre has wheelchair accessible and companion seating, plus easy-access seats that need few or no stairs, and all of these can be booked online. All four garages have elevators to every level, there is a van-only accessible spot in the Yellow garage, and street-level accessible entrances are on Illinois Street and Oregon Street.

Patron Services staff escort people from the lobby or garages to their seats before every performance, and wheelchairs and staff assistance are available from one hour before showtime. An assisted listening system covers all four theatres and the lobby, with headsets to borrow free of charge.

Large-print programs, Braille programs or an ASL interpreter can be arranged for any performance with two weeks' notice, and the Center asks for the same notice for any other accommodation.

Camping

Food, water and what you can bring

The Intermezzo Cafe in the Lobby serves coffee, tea, soups, sandwiches and daily specials for breakfast and lunch, Monday to Friday. On evenings with a live event the Stage 5 Bar sells snacks, beer, wine and cocktails from 90 minutes before showtime, with last call at 10:15pm; you can order before the show and collect at intermission. It does not open for matinees or Sunday Salon performances.

Firearms and other dangerous weapons are not allowed on the grounds.

Sound and sensory

Foellinger Great Hall was designed by architect Max Abramovitz and acoustician Cyril Harris for natural sound and is used mainly for vocal and instrumental concerts. The Colwell Playhouse has a short echo suited to spoken word, and the assisted listening system with free headsets works in all four theatres and the lobby.

Many events are planned for children and families, with dancing, singing and all-ages participation welcome. Other events welcome children with a parent if they can sit attentively for the whole performance; babies and very young children should not attend symphony, ballet and similar performances.
