Gregory Porter is an American jazz vocalist known for his warm baritone and his blend of jazz, soul, and gospel. Raised in Bakersfield, California, he cites Southern gospel and his mother's Nat King Cole records as key influences, and came to music after a football injury derailed a college athletic career. His first two albums, Water (2010) and Be Good (2012), earned Grammy nominations, and his 2013 Blue Note debut Liquid Spirit won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and sold more than a million copies
