The experience

What's special

The Colorado Highland Games, also known as the Colorado Scottish Festival, is held each September at the Denver Polo Club in Sedalia, Colorado, run entirely by volunteers of the St. Andrew Society of Colorado. In its 62nd year the two-day Scottish festival features amateur Scottish heavy athletics and the Women's Lightweight World Championship, massed pipe bands and Highland dance, a Parade of Clans, the Kirkin' o' the Tartan, British cars, a Dogs of the British Isles showcase, a whisky seminar and Celtic bands headlined by Seven Nations

The games

Heavy athletics

The games run amateur Scottish heavy athletics all day on both Saturday and Sunday and host the Women's Lightweight World Championship

Pipe bands & Highland dance

Massed bands perform with solo piping and drumming competitions, a Pipe Band Competition and a Highland dance competition, plus the Kirkin' o' the Tartan

Clans & genealogy

A Parade of Clans is part of the midday ceremonies, and clan tents gather alongside the St. Andrew Society of Colorado tent for tartan information

Taking part

Beyond the field the games add British cars, a Dogs of the British Isles showcase with a Parade of British Dogs, a whisky seminar, a Highland Coo exhibit, RenScot living-history demonstrations of weaving, spinning, blacksmithing and leather working, and Scottish and Celtic bands including headliner Seven Nations and Old Blind Dogs
