The experience

What's special

The Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival is a three-day Celtic festival held each September at the Estes Park Event Complex in the Colorado Rockies, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. The Scottish and Irish weekend pairs Highland Games athletics, including professional world championship throwing, with world-class pipe bands, Highland dancing, clan tents, Celtic music, whisky tastings and the Estes Park International Tattoo, a spectacle of massed military and Celtic pageantry beneath Longs Peak

What people love

Returning visitors describe a very fun festival that is well worth attending, praising the caber toss and heavy athletics, the pipe bands and the Highland dance tent, and the tents and shops that fill the grounds. Practical advice recurs: come prepared for changeable mountain weather with layers, expect long lines at the food vendors during peak hours, and plan to visit the music tent and clan tent early to get your bearings

The games

Heavy athletics

Scottish Highland heavy athletics run Saturday and Sunday, including U.S. and international professional men's and women's world championship divisions alongside amateur A, B and C classes, with athletes from across the United States and around the world

Pipe bands & Highland dance

World-class pipe bands, solo piping and drumming, and Highland dance are central to the weekend, and massed pipes and drums perform as part of the Estes Park International Tattoo; pipers and pipe bands register through R2 Sports

Clans & genealogy

Scottish and Irish clans gather across the festival grounds, where clan representatives help visitors explore their heritage and family history, and clan packets are distributed on site during the weekend

Taking part

Beyond the athletic field the festival adds the Estes Park International Tattoo of massed military and Celtic bands, Celtic rock and folk concerts and a new Ceilidh, whisky and gin tastings, herding-dog and agility demonstrations, an appearance by Hebridean Baker author Coinneach MacLeod, and the optional Sword Experience training sessions led by Highlander actor Adrian Paul
