The experience

What's special

The Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot began as a livestock show in 1902 and now runs nine days each September; the organizer reports more than 250,000 visitors. Agriculture is its backbone, with over 2,000 animals from beef cattle and draft horses to rabbits and pigeons, and more than 6,000 entries across 26 competition categories from baking and canning to fine arts. Around that are the Butler Amusements carnival, free entertainment, horse races and the Bank of Commerce Grandstand, which in 2026 brought Flo Rida and comedian Gabriel Iglesias. The 2026 fair ran September 4 to 12; the 2027 dates have not been announced.

How it works

Gate admission is cheaper bought in advance: in 2026 adults paid $8 ahead or $9 during the fair, youth 6 to 11 paid $5 or $6, seniors $6 or $7, and children 5 and under got in free, with a $50 Ultimate Happy Pass covering the whole week and the horse races. Night grandstand tickets include gate admission, and active service members with ID get in free. On two weekday mornings in 2026 a food or school-supply donation cut the gate to $5. Most booths take cards, but a few vendors are cash only and no one takes checks.

Who it suits

It suits families, livestock and horse-racing fans and anyone who wants a long day of free stages, fair food and exhibits. In 2026 the night grandstand also ran bull riding, western truck and tractor pulls and a demolition derby.
