The experience
What's special
The Western Idaho Fair at Expo Idaho in Boise dates back to 1897, when it began as the Intermountain Fair, and has been on Glenwood Street since 1967. It combines 4-H, FFA and open-class competitions with a carnival, grounds entertainment and grandstand concerts that come free with admission, with reserved seats sold separately. Brantley Gilbert and Skillet headlined in 2026. From 2027 the fair moves a week earlier and stretches across three weekends: the 2027 fair runs Friday, August 13 to Sunday, August 29, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
How it works
Concert general admission is included in fair admission, which in 2026 was $13 for adults 12 to 61, $11 for youth 6 to 11, $12 for seniors 62 and over, and free for children 5 and under; reserved concert seats were extra. Carnival wristbands are separate, $42 on weekdays and $47 on weekends in 2026. Under the new format the fair is closed every Monday and Tuesday, so check the day before you go. Pets are not allowed anywhere on the grounds or in parked vehicles, and the fair did not rent wheelchairs in 2026.
Who it suits
It suits families with children, 4-H and FFA families and music fans, with a grandstand concert series alongside the livestock and carnival.
