The experience
What's special
The Garden City Community Mexican Fiesta is the longest-running community celebration in Garden City, Kansas, dating to 1926 and reaching its 100th year in 2026. Centered on downtown and Stevens Park, it blends a Main Street parade, a scholarship pageant crowning a Fiesta Queen, mariachi and folklorico performances, a car show and local Mexican food into a multi-generational celebration of the area's Mexican heritage
Last time around (2025)
The 99th annual fiesta was held September 13, 2025. A morning parade down Main Street -- with candy tossed to children -- gave way to vendors and Mexican food at Stevens Park, the national anthem and a talk on Mexican independence and community, the crowning of the Fiesta Queen, and live mariachi, bands and folklorico dancing, alongside a car show and horses. Local coverage called the edition a success

Getting there
How do I get to Garden City Community Mexican Fiesta?
By car
Most people drive to Garden City Community Mexican Fiesta. Check current road and traffic conditions before you set off, and see parking below.
By train
For travelers arriving overland rather than flying: Amtrak's Southwest Chief (Chicago-Los Angeles) stops at Garden City station downtown, close to the Stevens Park area. It's a once-daily-each-way, often overnight-timed arrival, so it's a niche option, but it does land you right in downtown Garden City without a car. Not a GCK airport connection
Book / info →By bus & public transit
No scheduled intercity bus or public transit route to the venue was found. Drive, fly in, or use a shuttle instead.
Taxi & rideshare
Rideshare operates in Garden City but driver supply is thin in this small western-Kansas market confirm availability, particularly for a return trip, rather than assuming on-demand pickup. A local taxi call-ahead is the fallback for the ~10-12 mi airport-to-downtown run
Book / info →Taxis and rideshare such as Uber and Lyft can be limited near the venue, especially late at night or in rural areas. Agree a pickup point and time in advance and keep a backup plan.
🅿 Parking
On site parking available. This is a downtown community festival at Stevens Park; parking is the free on-street and public-lot parking around the downtown core rather than a festival-run lot. Expect the closest blocks to fill during peak fiesta hours (this is the city's longest-running and largest annual event), so arrive early or be ready to walk a few blocks. The official festival site publishes no specific parking guidance, confirm any street closures for the 2026 centennial nearer the date
🚙 Car hire
Compare car hire
Relevant for fly-in attendees: GCK has no transit or scheduled shuttle into town, so a hire car covers both the ~10-12 mi airport-to-downtown leg and getting between a highway-corridor hotel and downtown Stevens Park across the weekend

Garden City has a modest Airbnb/short-stay inventory (single-family homes and in-town rentals) rather than a dense market, a whole-house rental can suit a family or group attending the centennial fiesta and put you closer to downtown than the highway-corridor hotels. Because this is the area's biggest annual event and 2026 is the 100th, book early: local rooms tighten on fiesta weekend. Link points to the Garden City Airbnb search
Search Airbnb →Southwest Kansas is sparse for private-land camping, but Hipcamp does list some prairie/farm and ranch sites across the region for attendees who'd rather camp than take a highway-corridor hotel room, a car is essential given the distances out here.
