What's special
Gasparilla Pirate Fest is Tampa's signature event, held most years since 1904: Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla 'invades' the city aboard the Jose Gasparilla II - billed as the world's only fully-rigged pirate ship - leading a flotilla of hundreds of private vessels into the downtown basin, where the Krewe's captain demands the key to the city from the Mayor. The victory Parade of Pirates that follows runs 4.5 miles down Bayshore Boulevard with more than 100 floats and is billed as the third-largest parade in the United States, drawing over 300,000 pirate-garbed spectators. The event is free to attend, with live music stages downtown before and after the parade, and it anchors a whole Gasparilla season that includes the country's largest children's parade the weekend before.

Parking within a mile of Bayshore fills early and is all paid; locals favor parking in Ybor City or outer districts and riding the free streetcar or event shuttle in. A limited number of disabled parking spots are available in the Fort Brooke Garage, first-come first-served, with a disabled parking permit
