The experience

What's special

The Honoka'a Renaissance Faire bills itself as Hawaii's original Renaissance faire: a free, one-day celebration in the heart of Honoka'a town on the Big Island's Hamakua Coast, community-run and sponsored by the Honokaa Business Association. Since debuting in 2022 it has grown quickly, reaching its 5th annual edition on November 14, 2026 (11am-7pm) in the court of Honoka'a County Park. The day brings live entertainment, artisan vendors, sword fighting, archery, Irish dancers, fencing, circus acts, local music, storytelling and a fire show, with medieval-themed games, contests and food, all free to attend, dog-friendly, and open to guests in costume or in everyday clothes.

What people love

Attendees describe having a blast and highly recommend it, praising the organizers, the fantastic costumes, and how much it has improved year over year; several said the free event was so good they would happily have paid an entry fee to help it grow. Families appreciate the kid-friendly setting with the park playground on hand. The gentle suggestions are logistical: attendees would like the food trucks spread into their own area to ease the crowding, and some wish for more costumed characters and staged combat.

Last time around

Recent editions were praised as fun and well-run for a young event, drawing large, growing crowds with strong costume turnout - including plenty of elf and fairy ears - and clear improvement from one year to the next; the main crowding gripe was food-truck lines bunching together.
