What's special

La Fiesta de Elgin is a free, family-friendly Mexican Independence Day celebration hosted by the City of Elgin, Illinois, at downtown's Festival Park. It opens with a morning parade and a Mercado of local vendors and food along Riverside Drive, then moves into an evening of live music and entertainment, with a large-scale Angel of Independence sculpture welcoming guests

Last time around (2025)

The most recent edition -- the third annual -- was held September 13, 2025 at Festival Park, pairing a daytime parade and Riverside Drive Mercado with an evening celebration of Mexican music and culture

Getting there

How do I get to La Fiesta de Elgin?

By car

Most people drive to La Fiesta de Elgin. Check current road and traffic conditions before you set off, and see parking below.

By train
Metra Milwaukee District West (MD-W) Line~65-75 minutes Union Station to Elgin · Metra zone-based fare from Union Station to Elgin (see Metra fare page)

Metra's MD-W commuter rail line runs from Chicago Union Station out to downtown Elgin (Elgin and National Street stations), a short walk from Festival Park. This is the practical rail option for anyone already in downtown Chicago; it does not connect directly to O'Hare, so a fly-in traveler would transfer via the CTA Blue Line into the city first, or simply take a rideshare/rental from ORD

By bus & public transit

No scheduled intercity bus or public transit route to the venue was found. Drive, fly in, or use a shuttle instead.

Taxi & rideshare
Uber, Lyft, licensed taxi~30-40 minutes to Festival Park, traffic-dependent · Roughly $50-75 one-way ORD to downtown Elgin depending on demand

Chicago O'Hare International (ORD) is the nearest major airport, about 22 miles east of downtown Elgin. Rideshare and taxi pickup at ORD is at designated curbside zones per terminal. Elgin is a genuine suburban drive from the airport, so expect a mileage-based fare rather than a short airport-hop rate

Book / info →

Taxis and rideshare such as Uber and Lyft can be limited near the venue, especially late at night or in rural areas. Agree a pickup point and time in advance and keep a backup plan.

🅿 Parking

Cost Free City of Elgin public decks and on-street parking downtown are generally free on weekends.

🚙 Car hire

Compare car hire

Elgin is a northwest Chicago suburb ~22 miles from O'Hare with no direct airport transit; a rental car is a convenient option for fly-in attendees, though Metra commuter rail is an alternative from downtown Chicago
