Ocean State Renaissance Faire

The Ocean State Renaissance Faire bills itself as the only Renaissance faire in Rhode Island, produced by the Contemporary Theater Company along the Saugatucket River in Wakefield. Its riverside, community-theater character sets it apart: a Friday-evening 'Revels on the River' kickoff on the theater patio, a 'choose your court' framing across four courts, four performance stages of musicians, aerialists, storytellers and mermaids, interactive live Dungeons & Dragons shows, costume contests, pirates and magic. Practical touches include allowing outside food and drink, same-day re-entry, air-conditioned indoor cool-off spaces, a free parking shuttle, and free admission for children under 10, with single days at $15

As a young, community-run faire, it draws grace more than raves so far. Early attendees have described it as small and rough around the edges, with limited shade and food, but several extend goodwill given that it is an early-year event run largely by a local theater group and hope it grows.
