The experience

What's special

The New Mexico Renaissance Celtic Festival is a Celtic-flavored Renaissance faire held over two spring weekends at Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood, east of Albuquerque, where (in the organizer's framing) Scotland, pirates, Vikings and Celtic myth collide. The first weekend is Celtic-themed with Scottish clan tents and headliners the Harp Twins; the second is an Easter weekend with the Highland-rock act Celtica Nova, a horse show and free golden-egg hunts. Across five stages it features Mary, Queen of Scots, jousting and arena combat, a Festival Quest adventure, Viking encampments, 120-plus craft vendors, meaderies and taverns, and games. A distinctive draw is that children 17 and under get in free with a paying adult, and the festival supports the non-profit nature park.

What people love

Reaction is mixed and the sample is small. Some attendees describe it as a fun, everything-you'd-expect mid-size Celtic festival with good vendors, while others feel it is not worth roughly $30 at the gate, describing lots of tartan and merchandise but not enough else, and framing it as an event best suited to vendors or those into their Celtic heritage. The kids-free policy and the Celtic music headliners are recurring positives. Note that Edgewood has hosted more than one Celtic event, which has caused some confusion among attendees.

Last time around

The 2026 spring festival ran over two weekends with live entertainment and more than 120 craft vendors, and the organizer projected close to 20,000 attendees. Programming included the Harp Twins and Celtica Nova, jousting, a horse show and the Easter golden-egg hunts.

Costumes & what to wear

Do I need a costume?

Costumes are optional; the festival encourages guests to 'prepare thy garb' and dress up for the theme, but everyday clothing is fine and generic Renaissance-faire etiquette holds that street clothes are welcome

Costume rules

A themed Celtic/medieval festival where garb is encouraged but not required; volunteers and cast appear in themed attire, and 'royal dress' is encouraged for the Queen's Tea

Joining in

Immersive, multi-kingdom event with Mary, Queen of Scots and King James, Scottish clan tents, a Festival Quest LARP-style adventure, arena jousting and combat exhibitions, Viking encampments, and games such as tomato toss, archery and axe throwing across five stages
