The experience
What's special
The Oregon Renaissance Faire fills all four weekends of June at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby, about 25 miles south of Portland, and is widely regarded as the largest of Oregon's ren faires and the one that lands national touring acts. Produced by Wandering In Time Productions, it is set in the fictional Vale of Dunrose during the reign of King James VI of Scotland, and each June weekend takes on its own theme - Fantasy, Viking, Feast of Fools, and Pirate. Full-contact jousting and mounted battle-archery anchor a program that also runs to circus and variety acts, Celtic and folk music, puppet shows, storytellers, and a large marketplace of makers and ale houses. Each Saturday night adds a separately ticketed 21+ Knight Club afterparty with DJs, burlesque, drag, and fire performance.
What people love
Attendees single out the jousting as the main event and praise the variety acts - the rat-and-cat Cirque du Sewer, comedian Broon, the birds-of-prey show, and a sword swallower among the favorites - along with the shaded, wooded vendor lanes, the local artisans, and a crowd many describe as friendly and inclusive. The recurring complaints are consistent: long entry lines that on peak days have stretched to around two hours amid reports of overselling and crowding, high food and vendor prices (turkey legs cited at $25 to $35), limited shade and heat or dust depending on the weather, and thin vegetarian and vegan food options. Some local faire-goers also say the event feels more corporate than Oregon's smaller faires.
Last time around
The 2026 Faire ran all four weekends of June (June 6-28) at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby, with themed weekends for Fantasy, Viking, Feast of Fools, and Pirate, gates open 10 AM to 7 PM, and a 21+ Saturday Knight Club afterparty each night. On the closing Sunday, June 28, the Royal Arena shows were tentatively cancelled because of wet ground conditions.

Lineup
Costumes & what to wear
Do I need a costume?
No costume is needed to feel welcome, the Faire tells guests to 'come as you are,' and attendees confirm plenty of visitors come in ordinary street clothes without feeling out of place. Those who want to dress up range from simple townsfolk garb to elaborate fantasy, Viking, and pirate looks tied to each weekend's theme. Sturdy, comfortable shoes are the most-repeated practical tip given the dusty, gravelly, sometimes muddy ground
Costume rules
Costuming and garb are highly encouraged for a fully immersive experience but are never required. Bags, strollers, and wagons are subject to search prior to entry
Weapons policy
Bags, strollers, and wagons are subject to search prior to entry, and modern weapons are not permitted on site
Joining in
Guests can join separately ticketed pub crawls, whiskey tastings, and Monarch Storytime, take part in the free King's Knighting Ceremony (open to all ages and genders), and enter the costume contests held at the 21+ Saturday Knight Club afterparties
