The experience

What's special

The Payson Scottish Festival is a free two-day celebration of Scottish heritage held each July at Memorial Park in Payson, Utah, run entirely by volunteers. It packs in Scottish heavy athletics and a caber championship, solo piping and pipe-and-drum competitions, Highland dance, a clan bagpipe band parade down Main Street, clan booths, live Celtic music, Scottish food and a children's area, all with free admission

What people love

The festival has grown into one of Utah's most beloved summer events, and a local reviewer highlighted the family-friendly Saturday program of mini-athletic events, games, face painting, storytelling and sword dancing that their kids loved, all with free admission

Last time around

The 2026 festival ran July 10-11 at Memorial Park, with Friday-evening strongman and a full Saturday of Scottish heavy athletics, piping, drumming and Highland dance competitions, clan booths and live Celtic music. The next edition, the 43rd annual, is announced for July 9-10, 2027
