The experience

What's special

The Pennsylvania Farm Show, billed as Pennsylvania's State Fair and one of the largest indoor agricultural events in America, fills the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg every January. It began in 1917, when hundreds of farmers gathered for the first statewide Farm Show, and today brings hundreds of exhibits, livestock and agricultural competitions, and the PRCA Frontier Circuit Finals rodeo under one roof. Its food court sells Pennsylvania-grown and Pennsylvania-made food, with the income supporting the state's nonprofit agricultural commodity groups. The 2027 show runs January 9 to 16.

How it works

General admission is free; a few events, such as the rodeo finals and foundation fundraisers, sell their own tickets. The halls open at 8 AM and close at 9 PM on most days, at 8 PM on January 10 and at 5 PM on the final day, January 16, and the Expo Hall food court opens a day early, from noon on January 8, with free parking that day. During the show parking is $15, in lots near the complex or off-site lots that open as the day fills.

Who it suits

It suits farm families, food lovers and anyone curious about Pennsylvania agriculture, with livestock, competitions, commercial exhibits and a food court of state-grown products under one roof. The complex is large, so expect plenty of walking between halls.

What people love

Attendees most often single out the milkshakes and the butter sculpture, with the rodeo events also appearing in photos. One January visitor found it fun but advised slowing down and taking your time to enjoy it.
