Railbird is a two-day country, Americana and roots festival held on the infield of Red Mile harness-racing track in downtown Lexington, celebrating Kentucky's intertwined music, equine and bourbon culture. Alongside three stages of country, blues and soul, it runs a curated bourbon program with hand-selected barrels from the state's distilleries. Since moving from its 2019 Keeneland origins to Red Mile, it has grown into one of the region's marquee roots-music weekends, drawing crowds near 40,000 a day

Attendees repeatedly single out an unusually courteous, easy-going crowd and a relaxed, refined Americana vibe at a manageable scale, backed by clear signage and friendly staff. Reviewers described an unpretentious, backyard-jam warmth -- a melting pot from college kids in flannel to retirees in cowboy hats -- kept smooth by clear signage and friendly staff, with only light showers bringing out ponchos. The main friction points were slow gates during the 2:00-5:00 p.m. entry peak, no on-site public parking, and occasional sound bleed between stages that muddled quieter sets

By car
Most people drive to Railbird Festival. The nearest major airport is LEX, and from there it is a straightforward drive to the venue. Check current road and traffic conditions before you set off, and see parking below.
By train
No direct passenger rail to the venue was found. Drive, fly in, or use a shuttle instead.
By bus & public transit
Regional coach service into Lexington for attendees not flying. There is no staffed station the stop is at 477 W New Circle Road, roughly 3 miles from The Infield at Red Mile and not downtown, so budget for a rideshare/taxi for the final leg. Tickets must be bought online, via app, or at a retail reseller (Walmart, Family Dollar, Speedway, etc.) since the physical ticket counter is closed

Pickup is at the airport's Cell Phone Waiting Area (Lextran stop #121, relocated there effective 22 Sept 2025). IMPORTANT CAVEAT: this express only operates Monday-Friday, 6am-6pm Railbird 2026 falls on Saturday 6 June and Sunday 7 June, so this specific service does NOT run on either festival day. It's only useful for travel earlier in festival week (e.g. a Friday arrival)

Official festival park-and-ride: park one vehicle at a Blue Grass Airport (LEX) lot and ride an official shuttle bus to and from The Infield at Red Mile each festival day. Support-site copy frames this as a parking solution for drivers, not an arrivals shuttle for flying passengers it's unclear from public copy whether a flying attendee without a car can board without buying the pass

Taxis and hotel courtesy shuttles also queue curbside at baggage claim, with courtesy phones nearby. For departure FROM the festival, all rideshare is funneled to a single designated zone across from 1141 Red Mile Rd (next to LexTran Bus Stop 810), staffed by traffic attendants this zone gets very congested at set-end each night and surge pricing is common; walking a few blocks before requesting a pickup is a common attendee workaround
Taxis and rideshare such as Uber and Lyft can be limited near the venue, especially late at night or in rural areas. Agree a pickup point and time in advance and keep a backup plan.
