The experience
What's special
Villain Arts was founded in 1999 by Troy Timpel with a single tattoo convention in Philadelphia and now runs more than 30 shows a year across the United States, describing itself as the largest tattoo festival organiser in the world. The Savannah Tattoo Arts Festival stop runs at 1 International Dr, Savannah, GA 31421 on September 25 to 27, 2026, with hours of Friday 2 pm to 11 pm, Saturday 11 am to 11 pm, Sunday 11 am to 8 pm. The organiser lists a discounted room-block rate at Holiday Inn Savannah Historic District for this stop. The organiser's own FAQ describes each festival as open to all ages, with children under 12 admitted free, while getting tattooed requires being 18 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID, a rule it describes as strictly enforced. Hundreds of artists tattoo live throughout the weekend; many take walk-ups, especially for smaller pieces, while others prefer to book appointments in advance through the show's artist directory or their own social media. Alongside the tattooing, the organiser's shows pair live entertainment, art exhibitions and a vendor marketplace with a full tattoo contest schedule judged on the main stage
What happens on the floor
The core format: artists take a booth for the weekend and work on the open floor, with the public walking through.
Pieces go on in the open, start to finish. You can watch, and talk to artists between clients.
Finished and same-day work is judged on stage in named categories, usually late in the day.
Machines, inks, aftercare, art and clothing. Aimed at artists, but open to anyone through the door.
Stage acts between judging: sideshow, suspension and burlesque are common. Worth knowing before you sit down with a child.
Getting tattooed here
Admission gets you through the door, not into a chair. Tattoo work is arranged with the artist, not with the show.
The organizer says many artists leave time for walk-ups, especially for smaller pieces, while others book up in advance; booking is handled directly with the artist via the show's Master Directory, Event Page, or the artist's own social media
Walk-ups are described as generally available, especially for smaller pieces; larger or artist-specific work is recommended to be arranged ahead of time

What it costs
Admission is the only price the show sets. The organizer sets a show minimum of $100 per tattoo, and describes typical tattoo pricing (set independently by each artist) as roughly $100 to $300 for small tattoos, $300 to $800 for medium pieces, and $1,000 or more for large or detailed work. Ticket admission does not cover tattoo, piercing, or merchandise costs, which are separate transactions with the artist.
Extras, bought separately
If you are exhibiting

The market and the food
The market floor carries Tattoo booth holders and merchandise vendors.
