The experience

What's special

Villain Arts runs its St. Louis tattoo festival at America's Center Convention Complex in downtown St. Louis, typically in mid-May. The weekend follows the touring circuit's format: a day pass or a three day pass sold at the door, free entry for children under 12, and a floor of working tattoo artists and vendor booths rather than a stage of guest speakers. Past St. Louis editions have drawn International Artists booked onto the circuit alongside regional shops, and the show closes out each run with a note of thanks to the city before announcing the following year's dates. Out of town visitors can book into the organiser's discounted room block at the Embassy Suites by Hilton St. Louis Downtown, a short distance from the convention complex. The organiser's own event page does not publish a specific parking lot or rate for this stop, pointing instead to a general directions link for visitors driving in

Live tattooing

Pieces go on in the open, start to finish. You can watch, and talk to artists between clients.

Tattoo contests

Finished and same-day work is judged on stage in named categories, usually late in the day.

Vendor market

Machines, inks, aftercare, art and clothing. Aimed at artists, but open to anyone through the door.

Entertainment stage

Stage acts between judging: sideshow, suspension and burlesque are common. Worth knowing before you sit down with a child.

Who is tattooing

No artist roster has been published for this edition, so there is no way to pick an artist in advance from the official pages.
