The experience

What's special

The Tennessee Medieval Faire is a small, grassroots medieval festival held on the outskirts of Harriman in East Tennessee, west of Knoxville. Set inside a recreated medieval village, its seasons have run on October weekends with a 'Live the Age of Chivalry' theme built around legends such as King Arthur and Robin Hood, featuring jousting, combat chess, comedy and stage shows, Celtic and live music, games, crafts, and vendors. It is run by the same passionate local organizers behind the spring Tennessee Pirate Fest, and attendees describe it as a heartfelt, non-corporate event that has grown over the years, distinct from the larger Tennessee Renaissance Festival near Nashville.

What people love

Attendees describe it as small but genuinely fun and improving each year, with neat vendors and entertainers and a good, uncrowded atmosphere; the vendors in particular are a favorite for many. Common caveats are that it is quite small (some describe grounds of only an acre or two), the site can get very muddy in the rain, performers rely heavily on tips, and food can feel overpriced. Several visitors frame it as worth supporting to help the event grow.
