The Virginia Scottish Games & Festival fill Great Meadow in The Plains, Virginia over Labor Day weekend, presented by the St. Andrew's Society of Washington, DC. Heavy athletics run all weekend on the Bryan McClain Memorial Athletic Field, including the East Coast amateur championships, alongside world-class bagpipers, Highland dance, a fiddling competition, the Col. Robert Morrison Clan Field, sheep-herding demonstrations, a British car show, a living-history encampment and whisky and gin tastings

Heavy athletics
Heavy athletics run all weekend on the Bryan McClain Memorial Athletic Field, including the East Coast Championships for men's amateur athletics on Sunday, with the caber and heavy stones among the events
Pipe bands & Highland dance
Piping and drumming and Highland dance competitions run alongside the athletics, with world-class bagpipers and a massed-pipes opening ceremony
Clans & genealogy
Clans and societies gather on the Col. Robert Morrison Clan Field, where visitors can meet people of Scottish heritage and trace their family tree
Taking part
The festival adds a British car show, sheep-herding demonstrations, Scottish dogs and terrier races, a living-history encampment, a Gaelic language village, a fiddling competition, whisky and gin tastings and a chef's demonstration from the Hebridean Baker
