When February flakes fly, the village of Whitefish, Montana, gathers for Whitefish Winter Carnival, a 68-year tradition of fun, frivolity and friendship ruled over by King Ullr and the Queen of the Snows. The 2027 carnival, numbered LXVIII, runs February 5 to 7, built up to by January coronations and parties, with the Grand Parade through town, where entries compete for awards and notoriety, and a food truck court planned for parade day.
How it works
The carnival is a run of community events rather than a gated site. The season opens in January with the Merry Maker, the Coronation and a Disco Party, before carnival weekend, February 5 to 7, and the Grand Parade. Carnival buttons, which support the carnival, go on sale at the Whitefish Christmas Stroll on December 11, 2026, then at local businesses. There is no arts and crafts fair; parade entries and food vendors apply from November 9.

It suits families and anyone who enjoys a small-town winter tradition: the Coronation is free and open to all ages, the Grand Parade is billed as a fun family event, and there is a Kiddie Carnival. Several evening events, including the Merry Maker, the Disco Party, the gala and the pie social, are 21+.
